This is called 'The Bed' series. They are basically taken in my bedroom with my boyfriend and myself. At first I wanted to explore the complexity of love relationships and the distance and differences between a couple. I believe relationship is something more than simply infatuation or an instant emotion. It is more about two people sharing their lives and feelings with each other and relying on each other. But relationship does bring a lot of emotions and negative powers to individual sometimes. I've once read this, 'Love is a friction, a resistance to losing one's self in the other person and at the same time a willingness to sacrifice the self to that other being, a consummation.' This is absolutely what I've been trying to achieve in this series: Love, resistance, and the paradox between being yourself and being someone your partner may expect you to be.

I used an analog camera with slide films (colour transparency). I've been using a low shutter speed and a 80A filter throughout the series. I also experimented with double exposure (putting two slides on top of each other) in some of my work. Inspired by the Hong Kong film-maker Wong Kar Wai, I also experimented with different colours of lights in order to make my work more intimate and dramatic. I put cello frames in front of the light sources I had in my room and I also used candles to create yellowish lights.

The reason I'm taking photos of myself is that I'd like to make this series more personal and more about my repressed feelings and experience of a relationship. They are all taken on my bed. I chose my bed as a symbol because it is where I put down all my defences, where I find is purely natural and secured, where I freely flow my emotions and where I share my 'true-self' to someone I trust.
I have been exploring 'relationship' in a more emotive and personal way than just looking at the nature of a relationship. These photographs involve deep emotions and repressed feelings of myself.
